If you are one of those who want to taste a home-made authentic Egyptian cuisine, you should pay a visit to the recently opened restaurant “Sidi Omar” located near the former ‘service bus’ station near the Old Market and try this marvelous Egyptian food. In fact it is more than just a restaurant – it is a cultural and spiritual experience, as the manager of this cozy place Mr. Ahmed Abdel Aal will make this experience even more fascinating by telling you everything you should know about Egypt and its cuisine.

While the chef Mr. Hussin Abd Elnaby was preparing our dinner Mr. Ahmed gave us a short discourse on Egyptian culture, habits and food: “Apart from being extremely tatsy” – says Mr. Ahmed –  “it is also very healthy, as the basis of our cuisine is vegetables and rice. Being cheap in Egypt, these products present another advantage of Egyptian cuisine, namely its affordability” – added the manager.

“You probably didn’t know” – continues the man that really knows much about his job – “but if you want to eat like an Egyptian, you should forget about using cutlery.  The food is eaten by hands or with the help of the delicious bread served hot on the spot”.

Finally the pots, the nice plates and the marvelously smelling dishes were put on the table– and to say that we were absolutely delighted is to say nothing, as the dishes were a real treat! Unlike many other restaurants serving different dishes in a specific order, the dishes in “Sidi Omar” are served on the table all at once giving the clients the opportunity to decide by themselves with which one to start – and frankly speaking, the food is so great and so various that you are easily lost in this variety.

We started with the ‘Okrah’ – a dish made of lamb or beef which is prepared in a ‘tagin’ - special pot made of clay or mud which underlines the fact that everything in this place is authentic and natural. Then came the ‘Fata’ – which is a pure vegetarian dish made of bread, rice and tomato sauce mixed with garlic and vinegar. The taste of ‘Koftah’ and chicken of “Sidi Omar” are really hard to beat; while ‘mahshi’, ‘lisan asfur’ or a pasta soup (literally translated as the tongue of the bird) and ‘tkhina’ are the best that we have ever tasted in Sharm.

You can easily be a part of this unique experience by visiting this place which definitely has something to cater to the tastes of every visitor. Pay a visit, and we promise you will not stay indifferent.
